Microlearning addresses knowledge gaps just-in-time

Many traditional corporate training courses may pass into antiquity along with slates and one room schoolhouses in the age of technology.  Microlearning may be the wave of the corporate training future. The term “microlearning” can be loosely defined as training given in small doses that can be understood in short bursts anytime and anywhere (Gherman, 2021).   Microlearning is characterized by its ability to convey a single learning objective in a three-to-seven-minute training.  Companies can identify learning gaps and specifically address them with microlearning segments.  Learners can access the training from multiple devices at their own pace at at their own place.  This can also allow employees to get just-in-time training before they will utilize the information.

After identifying a knowledge gap regarding how to use the LLEAP Profile Editor, a microlearning was developed to provide a five-minute refresher on how to use this feature.  A two-question assessment at the end acts as a self-assessment confirms the student understood an assimilated the knowledge (Gherman, 2021).  The employee can access the training when they need it without a huge time commitment in a just what they need when they need it format (Zhang, 2020) The training provides a completion certificate which is tangible evidence of competence which can satisfy government as well as ISO compliance.
